Lancers continue making noise on the gridiron

If you haven't jumped on the wagon yet, what are you waiting for? The Windsor Lancers football team handed Ottawa their first loss of the season while remaining undefeated following Saturday's 42-31 win.

The Lancers fell behind 7-0 early but then blew the barn doors off. Quarterback Danny Skelton hit Shane Johnson with a 34-yard pass to tie it. It was all Windsor in the second quarter as the Lancers opened a 32-10 lead at half. Brady Lidster extended the lead with a field goal early in the third but then Ottawa started their comeback. The Gee Gee's cut the deficit to four points early in the 4th.

"It’s important for our team to respond through all types of adversity. That’s a tough place to go play, an 8 hour bus ride and take on a talented Ottawa team coming off their bye week." said head coach J-P Circelli.

The Lancers responded late in the 4th. Circelli brought in backup QB Nick Dimovski who snuck in the insurance Windsor needed from one yard out to seal the victory.

"I was pleased with how we started and built a solid halftime lead and I was glad to see how we responded when we could have easily folded when they took the momentum in the second half, but we found a way to win and that’s what good teams do."

The Lancers are now 4-0 for the first time since 2014. Windsor lost the first game that season but received the victory because of an ineligible player. Prior to that, the last time the Lancers went 4-0 to start a season was in John Mussleman's first year at the helm in 1987.

Windsor hosts Queen's at Alumni Field next Saturday. All aboard.
