Lancers win big vs Guelph

"I'm not worried about sending a message." QB Danny Skelton following Windsor's convincing 41-18 win over Guelph Sunday night at Alumni Field.
The Lancers are 2-0 for the first time since 2014 when they started the season 4-0. Guelph handed Windsor their first loss that year as the Lancers finished with a 5-3 record. "Right now I don't think we've done anything." said Skelton who went 18-21 for 189 yards and two touchdowns. "Job's not even close to done. I just want to keep working, keep getting better."
The culture under head coach J-P Circelli has definitely changed and the evidence is showing on the field. The Lancers went 4-4 last season and look poised to continue their ascent to the upper tier of the OUA. "We have more goals and we have more time. We have to develop more and more after every game." said running back Chris John who rushed for 81 yards on 14 carries and bullied his way into the end zone for a third quarter touchdown. "The ride so far is good."
The Lancers, who racked up 679 yards of total offence, opened the scoring in the first quarter when Skelton hit Colby Ginn from five yards out. Windsor added two safeties and two Brady Lidster field goals for a 17-1 halftime lead.
Chris John went to work early in the third hurdling a opponent on his way to the end zone as the Lancers built a 24-1 lead. In total, the ground game accounted for 488 yards which included an electrifying 75-yard touchdown by Liam Talbot. "I didn't know it was gonna hit like that." said Talbot. Skelton faked a hand off to Joey Zorn and before the Gryphons picked up on the play Talbot was racing down the field. "A ton of blocks down field. Receiver blocked it well. The whole o-line was blocking well. Just ran to the endzone."
Windsor hits the road for the next two weeks at Waterloo September 9th and Ottawa on the 16th before returning to Alumni Field to take on the Western Mustangs.
