Busy night on the local hockey scene Thursday. Casey Torres made his first appearance at the WFCU as interim head coach of the Windsor Spitfires. Ian Michelone made 23 saves to backstop the team to a 4-1 win over Barrie. Windsor has now won two straight for the first time this season while making it four out of six under Torres.

In the OJHL, Leamington had a 2-0 lead midway through the first period of their home game against Oakville. Anthony Ciaramitaro and Ray Hamlin lit the lamp for the Flyers. Sean Clarke replied for the Blades to close out the period. After a scoreless second, Luke Johnston scored his 13th of the season on the powerplay at 17:04 to tie the game. Two scoreless overtime periods settled nothing as both teams earned a point. Leamington is in third in the West with 40 points, four points out of 2nd behind Milton.

The Essex 73's had stat night Thursday beating Walpool Island 13-2. Luke Sherk and Liam Hall each had two goals and two assists to lead the way. Kale Couvillon had three assists. Nate Dowling, Karson Beuglet and Bryce Belleau each pitched in a goal and two assists for the 73's who improved to 19-2-1-1. They have a four point lead over Lakeshore for the top spot in the Stobbs division. The Canadiens have two games in hand and host Blenheim tonight.
