Peer nets hat trick vs Flint

The Windsor Spitfires continue to win more they are losing lately. A 6-3 win over Flint Sunday night capped off another two out of three weekend. "Important win for us trying to chase down a team ahead of us in the standings." said interim head coach Casey Torres. "The back two periods not nearly as impressive as the first one. We got a great performance from our goaltender.
Ian Michelone, the game's second star, made 47 saves, 35 of those in the final two periods. "We came into this game not wanting to lose two games in a row and I think the boys showed we really wanted this game and we weren't gonna leave here without a win." said Michelone who improved to 5-6-1 on the season.
Oliver Peer gave the Spits an early cushion with a natural hat trick in the first period. "Actually thinking about last time scored a hat trick was probably, I was probably 12. Felt really good. I was really happy I could get one." said a smiling Peer who now has 18 goals on the year.
His first goals at 6:10 of the first set off a frenzy that saw over 3,700 teddy bears hit the ice for Sparky's Toy Drive.
The Spits have now won five of their last eight games since Torres took over on an interim basis and are official out of the OHL's cellar which they shared with Niagara until Sunday. Windsor has 9 wins and 19 points. The Spits are three points behind Sarnia for 4th in the West Division with a game in hand.
"We've been finding ways to win." said Peer. "Personally, me I can just kinda feel the room getting tighter."
