Tecumseh Vista gets even against Kennedy

For the first time in school history Tecumseh Vista has won the sr. girls and boys basketball AA championship. The boys beat Kennedy 58-47 to complete the feat Sunday afternoon at the St. Clair College Sportsplex.
Kennedy held a two point lead at the half but the Vortex outscored the Clippers 19-14 in the third to take a three point lead into the final frame. TVA's defence held an explosive Kennedy offence to two free throws before Isaac Preston hit a three late in the game. "We knew we wanted to win this one," TVA head coach Melanie Cardinal told Powerplay Sports. "We knew what it felt like to lose to Kennedy in this gym so we knew we didn't want to be on the same end again."
Cardinal says her team did a good job of not letting big moments interrupt their focus. The Vortex used their calm approach to throw Catholic Central off their game in the semi-finals Friday with the Clippers falling victim Sunday.
"When we're panicked we get a little hyper and our decision making skills go down and so we knew that (being calm) had to be part of our game so we could secure the win.
Luka Knezevic led all scorers with 22 points. He and fellow senior Filip Malovic praised Cardinal for helping the team get over the hump.
"She did a lot for us. Helped us come back a better team after last year's loss." Knezevic said.
Tecumseh plays the winner of Tuesday's game between Sarnia's Great Lakes on Chatham's John McGregor.
