Tecumseh Vista ready to open at OFSAA

Matt Balmer is excited for his team heading into the OFSAA championships later this week. The Tecumseh Vista Vortex beat Sarnia's Great Lakes Secondary 3-0 to claim the program's first SWOSSA AA title and clinch their spot in the provincial tournament in St. Thomas.

"The team is very excited to be attending their second consecutive OFSAA Championship," Balmer said. "After last year losing 6 seniors our team was able to refocus and get the job done."

Julia Upcott and Ozegho Aliu (2) scored for Vista as Melina Zsargo earned the clean sheet.

"Our team is very young, majority of our starting lineup will be back next year." Balmer said.

The Vortex have an 11-0-1 regular season record over the past two springs. Vista has nine starters in grades 9-10 and 11.

"We are very lucky to have talented and capable young players that are looking to make OFSAA a habit. Winning our first AA SWOSSAA Championship in school history is a great feeling and something that we look forward to trying to defend next year." Balmer told Powerplay Sports.

His team opens pool play Thurday at noon against Whitby's Anderson CVI. They'll then square off against Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary out of Hanmer, Ontario in their second game at 3pm.

"Our job is not done and we are very much looking forward to the opportunity to challenge the best teams in Ontario." Balmer said.
