Windsor/Essex County Shines at OFSAA Badminton Championships

It was a landmark showing for badminton in Windsor/Essex County, as several local athletes made their mark at the OFSAA Championships.

The spotlight shines brightest on the girls doubles category, where two county schools delivered podium-worthy performances and continued one of the region's most celebrated sporting rivalries.

Erie Migration District School and Massey have long been friendly adversaries in girls doubles, pushing each other to be better year after year and the recent championships was no exception.

Leading the charge were EMDS's Natalie Mann and Mady Stanley, who capped off a remarkable OFSAA run in storybook fashion. The duo made their third consecutive OFSAA appearance and left nothing to chance, going completely undefeated throughout the A Division tournament to claim the gold medal.

Right behind them were Massey's Alice Li and Melissa Nasel, who delivered a performance that earned the a silver medal. Their run is a testament to the depth of talent that Massey continues to develop in this event, and a reminder of why the EMDS-Massey rivalry brings out the best in both programs.

Both teams celebrated each other's successes as much as their own, a reflection of the character these programs build beyond the court. Huge congratulations to our local athletes who represented their schools at OFSAA and their coaches for guiding them: Martin Morphet and Mike Stammler of EMDS, and Dong Tran and Mike Lam of Massey.
