World Junior training camp coming to Windsor

Hockey Canada is holding training camp and exhibition games at the WFCU Centre later this month. The Windsor Spitfires have partnered with Hockey Canada to host the summer camp starting July 28th.

The Canadian National Junior Team Red and White game is scheduled for July 30th at 7:30. Canada will host Sweden the next night at 7:30.

"We are incredibly excited to partner with Hockey Canada to bring the Canadian World Junior Summer Camp to Windsor," said John Savage, owner/governor of the Windsor Spitfires. "This event not only provides a fantastic opportunity for our community to see some of the best young talent in hockey but also supports the development of future stars of the game."

No Spitfires players are expected to participate as the camp moves to Plymouth following a short stay in Windsor. The 2025 IIHF World Juniors will be played in Ottawa with Dave Cameron returns as head coach after leading Canada to gold in 2022. Joining him on the bench will be Sylvain Favreau (Drummondville), Mike Johnston (Portland) and Chris Lazary (Saginaw).

Tickets for the Windsor camp go on sale Friday. Here are the times: July 5th 11-9pm, July 6th 9-9pm, July 7th 11-3pm. Tickets are available at the following links.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

John Fairley, St. Clair College

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
