Spits falter against Sarnia

Two days after beating the top-ranked team in the CHL in Ottawa the Windsor Spitfires found themselves wondering how they dropped a 6-4 decision to Sarnia, the worst team in the Western Conference.

The Spits opened the scoring at the 8:42 mark of the first as Daniel D'Amico notched his 21st of the season. Sarnia's Ryan McGregor scored the first of his three goals to tie the game before the end of the period. The Sting beat Kari Piiroinen four times in the second period to take a 5-2 advantage into the third.

Rookie goaltender Benjamin Gaudreau made 33 saves to backstop the Sting to their 16th win of the season. Piiroinen stopped 13 of 18 shots while Xavier Medina played the third in relief and turned aside the two shots he faced.
