Vipers win streak halted as Siskins Rally for the victory

The Waterloo Siskins shook off an early two-goal deficit and stormed back to defeat the LaSalle Vipers 5–2 in GOHL action Wednesday night.

LaSalle wasted no time jumping ahead. Kade McGeen opened the scoring just 68 seconds into the game, and Shawn Costello capitalized on the power play later in the first to give the Vipers a 2–0 lead after twenty minutes.

Waterloo, who snapped LaSalle's three-game win streak, flipped the script in the second period. Kayden Oliver pulled the Siskins within one early, before Matthew Mirda scored twice to put the visitors in front. Jackson Halloran added another late in the frame as Waterloo surged ahead 4–2. Jacob Middleton sealed the victory with a third-period goal, completing five unanswered markers for the Siskins.

Brock Grein was solid between the pipes for Waterloo, turning aside 38 shots to earn the win. Bennett Horrocks made 27 saves for LaSalle in the loss. A chippy third period featured multiple roughing penalties as both teams battled to the final horn.

The result shakes up the GOHL standings. LaSalle drops to 18-19-3-0, 39 points, sliding from 6th to 8th place. Waterloo improves to 17-14-4-2, moving past the Vipers from 8th to 6th. St. Thomas sits in 7th with 39 points and holds three games in hand on LaSalle, keeping the playoff picture tight.

The Vipers are off until next Wednesday when they host Komoka February 4th.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
